SUVA FORESHORE COMPETITION - Shortlisted Submission
Project Type
Urban Design
Location
Suva, Fiji
Design Core Architects participated in a design competition supporting the Suva City Council’s vision to revitalise the greater Suva Foreshore. The proposal responds to an ambitious brief to shape the Suva Foreshore Precinct Plan 2030, establishing a clear and adaptable framework to guide future development and investment.
Spanning from Stinson Bridge to Suva Point, the precinct is reimagined as a connected and activated waterfront. The design explores opportunities to strengthen public access, enhance open space and create a vibrant civic edge that reflects Suva’s identity, culture and climate.
Our approach focuses on long-term resilience and adaptability, balancing environmental considerations with the need for flexible, people-focused spaces. The proposal supports a foreshore that can evolve over time, while remaining grounded in place and responsive to community needs.
The proposal focuses on Zone A, organizing the Suva City Foreshore into seven distinct sub-precincts that support a compact, sustainable and forward-looking urban environment. The plan encourages higher-density mixed-use development, integrated public transport and walkable public spaces, creating a more connected and accessible waterfront. Each precinct is shaped to support a mix of business, technology, arts and education, contributing to economic growth while strengthening public life. This approach builds on the broader vision for Zones B and C, ensuring a cohesive and resilient framework for Suva’s future.
